Dr Robert Evans

I am a consultant orthodontist and have worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children since 1995. My main clinical interests are the management of children with complex facial deformities and the multidisciplinary treatment of children with complex medical problems. I was the Medical Director from 2006 – 2010 and I am currently the Caldicott Guardian.

Dr Amelia Jerreat

Amelia Jerreat was appointed to her current position as an Orthodontic Consultant at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in 2007. Previous to this she qualified from Bristol University with BDS in 1997. She underwent orthodontic specialty training at Eastman Dental Institute from 2000 – 2003 and was awarded an MSc in Orthodontics with Distinction followed by Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, Edinburgh. Following further training at Cardiff University and Morriston Hospital, Wales she completed her Fellowship in Orthodontics in 2007. Amelia’s main interest is in teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates and is currently educational supervisor for their current trainees.

Mr John Atkins

John qualified from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1975 and set up a general dental practice in Westbury in 1979, which he owned and ran for 35 years. During this time he developed a special interest in Orthodontic treatment, training through Bristol University and the Royal United Hospital in Bath where he has been a Clinical Assistant for 21 years.John has been secretary of Wiltshire Local Dental Committee since 1996 and helps to arrange training for other dentists, dental nurses and hygienists. John also has an interest in Law and he was awarded a Master's Degree in Medical Law from Cardiff University in 2002.

Since retiring from his practice in 2014, John now works part-time concentrating on his orthodontic work.

Professor Tim  Newton

Tim Newton is Professor of Psychology as Applied to Dentistry at King’s College London Dental Institute. He also holds Honorary Consultant Health Psychologist positions with Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Tim has worked in the behavioural sciences in relation to dentistry for over 20 years, and his particular interests include the management of dental anxiety, the working life of the dental team and patients’ perceptions of treatment. In 2007 he received the Giddon Award for distinguished research in the behavioural sciences and in 2011 was awarded honorary membership of the British Orthodontic Society. In 2008 in conjunction with colleagues Dr Koula Asimakopoulou and Dr Suzanne Scott he founded the King’s College London Dental Institute Health Psychology Service for individuals who are dentally anxious. He is founding Editor, with Dr Sasha Scambler of the journal Social Science & Dentistry. He has a strong commitment to ensuring that research is of the highest scientific and ethical standards in protection of the rights of research participants and the wider public served by the research community. In pursuance of this he is Chair of the King’s College London Research Ethics Committee.
